Create a Software Distribution Directory from a CD

This step assumes that the user is logged in as root user on the desktop. If you are currently logged in as a non-privileged user and are more familiar with dirview than with the mkdir and cd shell commands, you should log out and log back in as root user before performing these steps.

Before creating a software distribution directory, you will need to decide its location on the system. The standard location for storing a software distribution directory is in a subdirectory of /usr/dist. For example, a distribution containing Desktop Special Edition 1.1 might be placed in the directory /usr/dist/desktop_special_ed_1.1.
